Alice in Wonderland is a delightful and surreal take on the beloved tale with entertaining choreography, playful narration, and whimsical design. Created by Toni Pimble, this visually striking ballet is a dreamlike journey filled with humor, unexpected characters, and scenes drawn from Lewis Carroll’s classic poems. Silk fabrics become the flowing Pool of Tears, and Wonderland comes alive through a child’s curious lens.
Paired with Alice’s adventure is Suzanne Haag’s The Large Rock and The Little Yew, a poignant and poetic ballet about a tiny yew seed that falls into a crack in a rock and, against all odds, grows and flourishes. Written by local author Gregory Ahlijian, this ballet based on literature tells a story of quiet strength and the power of perseverance.
Together, these two works offer thoughtful, imaginative reflections on what it means to navigate the world as a child, revealing both the absurdity of adulthood and the extraordinary perspective of childhood.
