Summer Series: Dúo Flamenco with Elena Villa

Sold Out

Dúo Flamenco (Grant Ruiz and Terry Longshore) and dancer Elena Villa will take you on a journey through Andalucía in the south of Spain. The full expression of Flamenco, the art form they perform, comes through the interaction of guitar, percussion, singing and dance. The art is earthy and emotional, reflecting the oppressed history of the people who created it.

Dúo Flamenco formed in 2007 out of a mutual passion for the art form. They are:

Grant Ruiz (guitar, vocals), a professional musician and teacher in Southern Oregon who has performed in several productions and Green Shows at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland since 2002. He is a founding member, officer and, board member of the Guitar Society of Southern Oregon.

Terry Longshore, PhD (percussion, vocals), who has performed internationally and throughout the United States. He has taught at several universities and currently serves as Director of Percussion Studies at Southern Oregon University. He has performed in several Green Shows and plays at the OSF.

They will be joined by Elena Villa, PhD (dance), a professional flamenco dancer and teacher in Portland. She has performed and taught flamenco and Arabic-Spanish fusion since the mid-1990s and is also an expert belly dancer. She is an organizer of The Caravan Stage at the annual Oregon Country Fair.
