Summer Series: Free Outdoor Concerts Are Back!

After a two year hiatus, the Hult Center’s outdoor summer programming is back! Known now as the Summer Series, this collection of shows highlights mainly local and regional artists on an accessible platform, both from the artists’ perspective, as well as the audience. The series is free to the public—no ticket required! The artist gets paid and grows their exposure and audience, helping them gain momentum toward booking larger gigs. It’s a win-win situation, and one that we have greatly missed for the past two summers!

This is an important series for the Hult Center and our community because it gives us the ability to showcase artists who otherwise might not be able to play here. It removes the barrier to folks who may not be able to buy a ticket to a performance. Accessibility is key.

We try to program so that each week is as different as possible from the next. Luckily for us, Eugene and the Pacific Northwest have no shortage of talented and diverse artists. This year’s lineup includes a couple of artists that we’ve been pursuing for a few years, and we’re ecstatic that those efforts are coming to fruition! Each week will be unique. Each week will be exciting. And each week, we hope you will discover a new favorite.

Come join us every Thursday in July and August (except July 21!) at 5:30pm on our plaza between 6th and 7th streets. We look forward to seeing you there!

JULY

July 7 – Blaze and Kelly
Blaze and Kelly – We’ve been pursuing this artist since before the pandemic! They recently played at the Gorge on one of the smaller stages “next to” Brandi Carlile, and they’ve opened for such artists as Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and Shawn Colvin. Get ready to discover that Idaho has soul!

July 14 – Llorona
We love it when artists forge a new style. Llorona says their music might best be described as “ghost folk” and we are here for it. A hot recommendation from one of the Hult’s very own crew members. It’s good to know people.

July 28 – Grupo Masato
It will be impossible to sit still in a chair while you listen to this Afro-Peruvian blend of danceable beats. We learned about this group from a common member with a previous summer artist, POPgoji.

AUGUST

We first listened to Snaps for Sinners back in 2019 and haven’t been able to get “The Line” out of our heads since! We had them on the books for 2020 before COVID brought everything tumbling down, but now we’ve managed to get another date on the books!

Smart and witty, you might have seen Cuchulain’s NPR Tiny Desk Contest submissions, or even caught his show at the WOW Hall last November. We did. And then we booked him.

Based in Alaska, this artist has been performing around the world since 1995. This summer they’ll share a piece of Inuit culture with their acoustic trio show in Eugene.

Get ready to get funky and dance out the last show of the 2022 Summer Series with this Portland-based Afro-Funk group!
