Our Favorite Jason Isbell Songs

We have two huge Jason Isbell fans on staff and so we asked them: What’s your favorite song?

This is what we got back.

“This was way harder to do than we thought. There are just so many good ones.” – Vicki Infinito (Director of Programming & Booking)

Vicki’s Picks (Director of Programming & Booking)

Elephant (Southeastern, 2013) – It’s about cancer and the loss of a friend and I don’t have much else to say about it – if you haven’t heard it go do that. It’s just one of those songs that gives me goosebumps.

If We Were Vampires (The Nashville Sound, 2017)  – This song is just perfect. Jason Isbell wrote a post on his instagram about how his wife Amanda Shires makes notes on his songs as he is working on them and he posted the note she wrote on this one which was just “F@#k You / Done”

Alabama Pines (Here We Rest, 2011) – A great song and favorite line of mine, “I needed that damned woman like a dream needs gasoline.”

Last of My Kind (The Nashville Sound, 2017) – And again with the great lyrics “everybody’s clapping on the 1 and 3…”

Lee’s Choices (Food and Beverage Director)

Live Oak (Southeastern, 2013) – It elegantly paints a stark and ominous story.

Overseas (Reunions, 2020) – It’s filled with raw emotion and has a nice clean sound.
