We’re super excited about Black Belt Eagle Scout’s upcoming 10×10 show at the Hult Center on March 31 so we asked Black Belt Eagle Scouts’ Katherine Paul what she’s been listening to so we can listen to it too!
The following was provided to the Hult Center by Black Belt Eagle Scout
‘Mahal Kita’ – Hikes
Nay and Claire who played in Hikes also play in Black Belt Eagle Scout and my mom recently got me their Mahal Kita album for Christmas. I’ve been spinning this in the evening when my household preps for dinner time. The intricacies of the guitar parts on this record and the epic drums all rip.
‘Songs’ – Adrienne Lenker
I love Adrienne’s beautiful songwriting and this record gets put on whenever I need a soothing atmosphere. The instrumentals additional LP is beautiful as well. My favorite song on the album is “forwards beckon rebound.”
‘The Roots of Chicha’ – Psychedelic Cumbias From Peru
This is my partner’s record and we play it whenever we have dinner guests over. It sets the vibe of the night in such a stylish and positive way. All of the songs on it are amazing.
‘Mayahuel’ – Sávila
Fabi, Brisa and Papi are all friends of mine and they make beautiful music. I love the first track Mayahuel off the record and their tribute through the songs about Oaxaca. Seeing them live is also amazing in how Fabi loops the melodic instruments and Papi locks in with the drums adding in Brisa’s beautiful vocals.
‘Indistinct Conversations’ – Land of Talk
I got this record when the pre-order released because I knew I’d want to listen to it non-stop. This record is probably the most played at my house. All of the songs are amazing and Elizabeth’s songwriting makes me feel so serene and happy. My favorite songs on the album are “Diaphanous” and “A/B Futures.”
