Before Gina Chavez took the stage for our 10×10 Series she sat down in the lobby for solo performance of her beautiful song “The Sweet sound of Your Name.”
“I met my wife at the Catholic Center when we were students at the University of Texas at Austin. Yes, at the Catholic church lol. Long story short, I had found the person of my dreams, but she and I both knew we couldn’t actually be together, build a life together. We were Catholics. In Texas. I wrote “The Sweet Sound of Your Name” in this time. It’s the story of the most beautiful love I’d ever found; one that I couldn’t have. But, as it turned out, God wanted us together after all. Seventeen years later, we are still together, in Texas! We’ve been married for five years and I love singing this song as a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much more we need to fight so that everyone has the right to marry who they want, no matter where in the world they live. #loveislove” – Gina Chavez
